Remapping V Chip… What’s the difference?
There are two common ways to increase performance in modern common-rail 4wds, one is to Remap the vehicles stock ECU, the other to install an aftermarket performance chip. Top quality chips can certainly provide the desired results but there are a lot of things it cannot do such as switching off the vehicles EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) & DPF (diesel particulate filter) systems. Unfortunately the market is also flooded with cheap knock-off units that leave you open to severe engine damage. A chip simply tricks the ECU to thinking it needs to perform differently, but doesn’t always protect you from things like increased fuel consumption, increases to exhaust emissions (soot) and high engine/exhaust temps.
A full remap as offered by Shaw Performance is the proper way to go about increasing performance. We download the vehicles standard fuel & ignition maps and alter them to correctly deliver the right amount of fuel to suit the increased boost & timing requirements. We are also able to remove the EGR and DPF systems in a range of vehicles either at the ECU or with the use of an EGR removal cable. Remapping also removes the torque and boost limitations that a lot of vehicles have set from factory.
